Seven Nations

Seven Nations

"The Orlando-based five-piece Seven Nations encompasses a wide variety of diversity in music, but the love for creating their own musical sound remains a common goal. Seven Nations pushes American traditional rock and Celtic roots rock while intertwining the brooding beauty of the mandolin, violin, bagpipes, and horns for a worldbeat seascape of rock & roll." -MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Heilan Coos

Heilan Coos

What would a highland games be without "Heilan Coos" (Highland Cows)? Peter and Patricia Houchin of Running River Ranch will have them "up close and personal". Their majestic horns and long thick hair suggest a beast from another time.
To appreciate the breed's unique characteristics of hardiness and longevity, one must understand the rugged Scottish Highland environment in which they evolved. The Highlands are located in north and western Scotland, a sometimes inhospitable land of braes, burns, and moors. Until the early 18th Century it was also a land of sometimes equally inhospitable hardy warrior clans.
Today, Queen Elizabeth breeds and raises Highland Cattle at the estate at Balmoral. The "Queens Beef" is lower in fat and cholesterol than other types of beef. There will be Heilan-Burgers on hand for you to sample.

Robert Valentine

Robert Valentine

For more than 20 years Robert Valentine has been telling the stories of Scotland throughout the United States. As the Master Storyteller for the National Scouting Museum, he and playwright Jon Lipsky created the legendary "Unknown Scout" and made him a young Scots lad from Bob own family tradition.

From there, it was a tiny leap to compere (Emcee, in America) to raconteur to featured entertainer. Bob's rendition of classic Scottish favorites, collected over the years from family and friends, has delighted audiences from Los Angeles to Tampa, and from the bayous of Louisiana to the shores of Lake Michigan. His gentle accent is "the flavour of Scotland wi-oot being incomprehensible to yer average Yank."

One day he decided to record the old favorites, and gathered about a hundred friends and acquaintances at the historic Greystone Hotel in Paris, Tennessee. For more than an hour, they shared the "sangs and clatter" that kept them laughing, clapping and crying. They became "the best audience in the history of public house entertainment" and are as much a part of the evening as Bob himself. Now, you can join them.

42nd Royal Highland Regiment of Foot

42nd Royal Highland Regiment of Foot

Lt. Colonel's Company, Province of East Florida

This Regiment was the first of the Highland Regiments to be formed for the British Army. It was originally comprised of several highland independent companies of men guarding, or watching, the English/Scottish border in 1739. The uniform included the now famous Black Watch plaid, which was a government design so that no Highland clan would be associated with the men.

The 42nd has a long history with the Americas. One of its highest moments of valor occurred during the battle at Fort Ticonderoga (New York) against the French in 1759, The Regiment also fought bravely in the Caribbean and played a major role in the English conquest of Cuba in 1762. Even later, the Regiment took part in the relief of Fort Pitt (Pittsburgh) from the Indians and protected the American western frontier for several years.

When fighting broke out forming the American Rebellion the Regiment returned to the colonies and participated in the battles of Brooklyn, Princeton and Charlestown.

The men you see today have recreated the Regiment during this period of the Rebellion and are here to represent the loyalty of Florida to the British Crown. We take great pleasure in sharing our hobby of portraying military and civilian life of over two hundred years ago. Please feel free to stay a while and ask as many questions as you like.
